Celeste is a feisty twelve-year-old battling a life-threatening medical condition. Despite her having little energy, she was able to get her wish across loud and clear to her wishgranter.  Celeste’s one true wish was to have a bedroom makeover.  For her, “this was something that would last a lifetime!”

Planning started immediately. The first major decision to be made was the paint color.  The obvious choice was PINK – but which shade of pink?  Celeste looked through more than 20 variations of pink paint samples and finally decided on “Watermelon Smoothie.”  Next she picked out a white, lofted bed complete with a study area and desk below.  Unlike most kids her age, Celeste had not been able to go to school this year, so the thought of a study area was thrilling!  Over the next few months Celeste had fun picking out items that would make up her new bedroom.
Among these items were polka dot and heart themed bedding, pink furry rug and bean bag, window treatments, and entertainment console.  Celeste’s room was coming together… piece by piece.

Celeste wanted to be there during the set-up of her room, so a surprise reveal was out of the question.  In order to create some surprises, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas transformed her wish into Celeste’s Extreme Makeover: ROOM Edition, where she would play the part of Design Team Leader.

As the Design Team Leader, Celeste had a festive pink clip board and a “to-do” list to manage which included things like: “dress the part,” assemble the desk chair, hanging curtains, and an arts and craft project The surprises included letters of her name to hang on her wall, picture frames, pillows for her bed, desk accessories, and a few fun items for her new puppy!  Friends stopped by to check out the new room and everyone was overflowing with excitement.

As Celeste has been battling her condition for years and her mom mentioned, that earlier in the day, she had asked Celeste if this wish was worth everything she had been through… would she do it all over again to be where she is now?  And Celeste’s response was “definitely!”   Celeste’s wish not only gave her a new room, but a renewed sense of hope, strength and joy.
