Forrest's wish to have helicopter lessons

Forrest

“ I was surprised. People don’t just get helicopter lessons out of the blue. ”

- Forrest

Most 16 year-old's want a driver’s license, however, Forrest wanted something more. Ever since he could remember, he wanted to be a helicopter pilot, but with chemo and doctor visits consuming most of his time and energy, he began to lose hope in his dream.

Most boys at the age of 16 want a driver’s license, however, Forrest, wanted something more than that. Ever since he could remember, Forrest wanted to be a helicopter pilot, but with chemo and doctor visits consuming most of his time and energy, he began to lose hope in his dream.

On April 30th, however, with help from the East Texas Medical Center, SKY Helicopters, FlightSafety International Incorporated, and ETMC Air 1, his lifelong dream finally became a reality. Forrest was surprised with a special landing from ETMC Tyler followed by private flying lessons.

Afterwards, the aspiring pilot and his family were treated to lunch where Forrest was presented with all the essential pilot gear-flying lessons, books, certificates, his own personal flight suit, and even a pair of boots donated by the Army-Navy store of Tyler. In case he wasn’t prepared enough to fly, the helicopter company provided Forrest and his family with a special gas card to pay for all the traveling he’ll need to do in order to finish his 40 hours of flight training.

Forrest described this day as, “Almost overwhelming. I was surprised. People don’t just get helicopter lessons out of the blue.”

The pilots of ETMC Air 1 were privileged to have helped in this wish, and told Forrest they hope to have him as a part of their team one day. While there is no word yet on when Forrest will begin his lessons, he’s still relishing in the excitement of that day.

“He’s as over the moon as you can be,” described Mr. Wagner of his son.
