Bankston Ford in Forth Worth, Texas and Make-A-Wish North Texas teamed up to surprise a local teen who was introduced to Make-A-Wish® during his battle with a life-threatening illness. Now the teen is not only celebrating with his completed wish, but his health.
Gary, a well-mannered young man who successfully completed cancer treatments last year, is now 18 and almost ready to graduate. When offered the chance to choose a wish during cancer treatments, Gary looked towards the future and made a wish to have something he can use and enjoy everyday for years to come.
Gary, like most teens, are new to the road and are each searching for their own unique way to stand out. Originally, Gary was thinking of “blacking out” his Ford Excursion with black paint, interior, etc., however during a short meeting to discuss the vehicle redo, the idea of camouflage came up and Gary’s eyes just lit up! All of a sudden, he realized that he could truly have the most unique vehicle at school and something that truly reflected his country roots.
Although Gary knew his vehicle was in for a makeover, he never expected the surprise bash that was thrown in his honor. Individuals that worked on Gary’s new ride and Gary’s friends and family secretly gathered awaiting the look on the teenager’s face when he walked into a room full of caring fans, pizza, cake, balloons, and most importantly, his newly revamped Excursion.
Thanks to Larry Balkum, General Manager at Bankston Ford, and Tim Roe of Truck Toys, a custom body shop, Gary’s Excursion looked brand-new, and ready for a custom car show! Impressive new tires and wheels and a lift kit had everyone gasping in awe, but the detail you just couldn’t miss were the custom camo accents on the seats, dash and even on the tires.
The teen's smile lit the room as onlookers checked out this truely unique vehicle made for such a deserving individual. Gary mentioned that although the whole vehicle was even more than he could have wished for, his favorite feature is the remote start he can control using an app on his iPhone.
