Minnesota teenager, Tyler, battles a life-threatening hematologic disorder but has never been one to let his illness slow him down. The 17 year old has been raising and showing his own barrows and steers at local stock shows for years, even collecting awards at his county fair.
When the chance to have his one true wish granted arrived, Tyler wasted no time in making his decision. He diligently researched stocks shows held around the country and decided that the legendary Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo in Fort Worth would be the perfect destination.
“The shows around our area near as big or exciting as a major, like Forth Worth, would be,” said Tyler’s dad. “That’s why he decided that he wanted to come to Fort Worth and see what a major stock show all entails.”
Make-A-Wish North Texas and the local Fort Worth community, pulled together to make sure that Tyler’s trip would the rodeo of a lifetime. Tyler and his family traveled all the way from their home in Minnesota for a weekend in Cowtown consisting of authentic Tex-Mex cuisine, a visit to the World Famous Sullivan Supply and the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. According to Tyler’s family, the wish experience was more than they ever thought it would be and was a welcomed break from hospital stays and treatment.
“This was a week where we can just forget everything,” explained Tyler’s mom.
A celebration of the magic of a wish come true was held for Tyler at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. The family arrived at the reception via limousine and were greeted by Fort Worth Mayor, Betsy Price. Immediately following, Tyler and his family attended the World’s Original Indoor Rodeo® in style, sitting in the President’s Box. He also received special access to Saturday’s Sale of Champions, a guided tour of the grounds, lunch at Reata’s Backstage Club and memories to last forever. Tyler’s wish inspired the entire Fort Worth community and Make-A-Wish North Texas is honored to have been a part of it!
