DALLAS, TX (December 15, 2015) — Make-A-Wish North Texas is privileged to announce The Honorable Tom Leppert, former Mayor of Dallas and former CEO of The Turner Corporation and Kaplan Inc., and his wife, Laura Leppert, co-founder and President of Daughters of World War II, as the 2016 Honorary Chairs for its annual Wish Night gala. The event, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary on May 14, 2016 at the Hilton Anatole, is dedicated to raising money to grant wishes each year for the hundreds of children affected by life-threating medical conditions in North Texas.
“Since Wish Night’s inception in 1997, the black-tie event has raised more than $14 million with the help of our generous donors and in turn, we’ve been able to grant over 1,875 wishes for children in need,” said Scotty Landry, Make-A-Wish North Texas President and CEO. “While Wish Night 2015 set a new record for our organization with over $1.6 million in donations received, through the support of individuals like Laura and Tom Leppert, we’re confident that this year’s gala will be the best to date.”
Leppert has held various leadership roles over his expansive career, including serving as Mayor of the City of Dallas from 2007 to 2011. During his time in office, his policies on education, economic development and the environment brought national attention to the city. Additionally, in an effort to improve public safety, Leppert drastically expanded the city’s police force and successfully reduced the city’s crime rate by one-third. In the private sector, he was a principal for McKinsey & Company, Chairman and CEO at The Turner Corporation, and most recently served as CEO of Kaplan. He also served as a White House Fellow during the Reagan administration.
“Laura and I are excited to have the opportunity to work with Make-A-Wish and give back to the North Texas community,” said Tom Leppert. “While in office and throughout my career, helping people in need was always a commitment of mine. I can’t think of a better way to continue that passion than to help make wishes come true for these North Texas children.”
